Material & Heat Treatment
Grade 12.9 bolts are typically manufactured from quenched and tempered alloy steels such as 42CrMo, SCM435, or 35CrMo. For SCM435 steel, a representative optimized heat treatment process consists of quenching at 880 °C for 30 minutes followed by tempering at 500 °C for 60 minutes, which achieves the strength and plasticity requirements of Grade 12.9 bolts.
Standards & Compliance
These bolts are produced in accordance with GB/T 5783 (Chinese national standard for fully threaded hex head bolts, covering M1.6–M64 and property classes up to 12.9), and are dimensionally equivalent to ISO 4017 and DIN 933. Due to the high hardness of Grade 12.9 bolts (39–44 HRC), hydrogen embrittlement risk must be managed — if any electroplating is applied, post-bake dehydrogenation within 24 hours is strongly recommended.
